After qualifying as a Solicitor in 1962, John McCarthy has worked in the field of conveyancing and property in Heaton for many years. During this time the firm of John McCarthy & Co has developed into a thriving, friendly practice, aware of the needs of the local community but with the professional skills, contacts, experience and technology to meet the ever more demanding requirements of our clients locally, nationally and indeed now quite internationally. Over the years, we have seen various structuring changes most significantly in change of name from the original "McCarthy and Tilson" to the current "John McCarthy & Co".

Fundamentally though, 184 Chillingham Road is still the base for our core areas of work, namely residential and commercial Conveyancing, Wills and Probate. John McCarthy is the firm's founder and principal and with his staff, deals mainly with Corporate Client property work and small Commercial Conveyancing transactions.

Our Conveyancing Manager, Peter Harrison, has returned to private practice after twenty five years as Legal Manager for one of the country's largest house-builders and with the assistance of Pam Walker his department deals with Residential Conveyancing and Small House Builder clients.

Wills and Probate are dealt with by our Probate Solicitor Katrina Morrison who also specialises in Trust Work and Powers of Attorney.

With a constantly increasing property workload we are more than aware of the need to keep our staff and technology fully up-to-date with changes in the law to meet the demands and needs of our clients. On the eve of a new era in electronic property conveyancing, we have recently implemented a new computerised case management system which will cope more readily both with the planned changes being implemented by lending institutions and a more massive transformation in the industry to be brought about by Government.
